Haines Alaska Where To Stay

Haines Alaska Where To Stay

Hotel Halsinglant

If you’re lucky enough to visit Alaska, I highly recommend visiting Haines. We did it on a SouthEast Alaska Trip with Off The Beaten Path and it was awesome. It’s definitely a small small town, but great to see for Bear Watching, River Rafting (as in flat river rafting) as well as just to experience a quaint small town in Alaska.  I recommend two nights tops on your way from Juneau to Gustavus or wherever you’re heading as you pass through.

While visiting Haines, Alaska we stayed at the Hotel Halsingland which was a few blocks from the main fishing port and a few of the stores in town. The hotel had spectacular mountain and port views. Similar to Juneau, in Haines there are very few hotel accommodations so don’t expect the Four Seasons. Although the hotel was small and pretty simple in a small town historic charming way, their Commander’s Room Restaurant was spectacular. From what I remember (it’s been 3 years) it was the either the Husband of Wife of the couple that owns the hotel. Regardless, the hotel is beyond charming with a lot of history, a fabulous restaurant, friendly attentive staff, and a wonderful location just a few blocks from town. 13 Ft Seward Drive.  Haines, AK. 907- 766-2000.
