Caymus Vineyards With Spectacular Wines & Stunning Napa Valley Views

Caymus Vineyards is one of those wineries that I had heard a lot about from various friends, however, I had yet to experience myself. When college friends Melanie and Jarred let me know they were visiting and wanted to plan a Wine Country day it was the perfect excuse to finally check out Caymus Vineyards! I immediately fell in love, so much that you’ll see them on my Top 10 Napa Wineries list. Read more about them below.  8700 Conn Creek Rd, Rutherford, CA 94573.

I scheduled a late morning tasting for the 3 of us and was not quite sure what to expect.  We arrived early and were warmly greeted and offered a glass of Rose as we waited. This tasting was already starting off in the right direction! I’m a huge fan of excellent customer service and note those who do it well like Caymus Vineyards. Having been raised in retail with one of my first jobs being at Nordstrom,  I learned from the best customer service brand in the industry. Hence, my above average consumer customer service expectations. A glass of water, wine, just the thoughtful gesture says a lot about a brand or a host setting the tone for the experience.

Back to the Rose… which was a 2014 Sonoma County Belle Glos. We later learned in our tasting that Belle Glos is Joseph Wagner’s Winery. He chose the name, Belle Glos to honor his grandmother, Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, a co-founder of Caymus Vineyards.

Prior to the tasting, we relaxed in the gorgeous gardens on the property. I suggest arriving a bit early for your visit so you can do the same. Take some time to enjoy the serenity of this gorgeous Winery.

When it was time for the tasting we were led with a group of 4 others into the Caymus family home’s dining room, which was just recently opened to the public for tastings. Upon arriving, I quickly noticed the charming flowers and the lovely place setting. You can tell I’m a host as I always appreciate these little details setting apart one Winery from the other and really making me as a guest feel welcome and cared for. Liz our hostess explained that with each wine there was a suggested cheese pairing. Perfect. Wine AND Cheese, this tasting was getting better and better!  Caymus Vineyards is located in Napa Valley so as expected we’d be trying some Cabernet Sauvignon. Anyone familiar with Caymus Vineyards knows they are known for their Cabernet Sauvignon’s. Our tasting included four wines (shown below) each paired with a different cheese bringing out the flavors in both the cheese and the wine as you enjoyed them together.

Belle Glos 2013 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir – This wine had hints of dark berries, my favorite in a complex red wine with a smoky taste, medium viscosity and acidity. It spent time in 100% French Oak, another style I typically enjoy and was delicious.  I also appreciate the beautiful label and wax finish on the bottle. Yet another touch differentiating this Vineyard and one of their spectacular brands.

Caymus Vineyards Rutherford 2012 Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon – This was an interesting Cabernet Sauvignon with hints of cherries, chocolate and roses. It was higher in viscosity with medium acidity and another Cabernet Sauvignon I enjoyed experiencing.

Caymus Vineyards Rutherford 2009 Special Edition Cabernet Sauvignon – This was the last Cabernet Sauvignon we tasted and it was incredibe. It spent 22 months in French Oak and everyone in the room loved it!

Overall, I thought this tasting was fabulous and I would highly recommend it. What made it so great was how informative it was. It really makes all the difference having a fabulous wine guide leading the tasting. I also loved all the little details Caymus Vineyards thought about enhancing the guest’s experience. For example, the warm welcome and complimentary Rose upon arriving. The complimentary Fiji Water accessible to guests throughout the Vineyards. The gorgeous tasting set up including flowers and delicious cheeses complimenting the tasting. As small as these amenities sound, it’s really all these extra touches that set apart the great visits from ok visits and what I look for in excellent wineries I want to share with my friends, family and readers like you!
