Proto Fish Restaurant With The Best Fish & Views In Dubrovnik Croatia

During my recent visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia I dined at Proto Fish Restaurant. While researching where to dine in this charming coastal Croatian town I read that Proto Restaurant is known as the oldest most iconic Seafood Restaurant in town which translated to me as a must try.

Upon arriving to Proto Katherine and I were greeted by the Restaurant Manager Kosta & Marketing Director Sasha. We were led upstairs to the lovely terrace (note, they are the only restaurant in the old district with an open terrace) where we enjoyed dinner.  The terrace is truly spectacular, with street side views and a relaxing luxurious atmosphere. Be sure to request the terrace when you visit.

The meal started with some welcoming Tomac Millenium Bubbles which are always such a lovely start to any event.  It really sets the mood for a fun celebration!  We then enjoyed fresh oysters and Buratta with mouth-watering delicious mozzarella and ripe cherry tomatoes. Sasha, our host enjoyed the Crab Soup which he said is a speciality of the restaurant and after tasting it, I understood why. It had a rich delicious flavor to it.  With our first course we enjoyed a delicious Sauvignon Blanc Wine.

We quickly realized we were going to be spoiled with the Sommelier Sinisa’s expertise throughout the meal.  Sinisa is Croatia’s reigning master sommelier (having won the country-wide competitions) and will be traveling to Chile in the Fall as the only sommelier to represent Croatia.  I was in heaven! Not only was I in Croatia, one of the most spectacular destinations I’ve experienced, I was enjoying amazing food and learning so much about Wine, another passion of mine with one of my best friend’s Katherine. Perfection! 

For our main courses, we shared a few entrees (always my favorite way to dine) including Fried Lobster with Garlic & Capers Spaghetti, Seafood Risotto with cuddle fish, another speciality we were informed of, and a Sea Bass Filet. Everything was delicious with the Lobster Spaghetti being truly, over the top amazing!  I LOVE Lobster, so that paired in a creamy sauce with capers and garlic was perfection. Sinisa paired the main course with an orange wine, Ines U Bijelom.  Typically I’m not a huge fan of Orange Wines but this really paired nicely with our food so was pleasantly surprised. Clearly he’s the Master Sommelier of Croatia for a reason!

As evident, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Proto Fish Restaurant.  For anyone visiting Dubrovnik I highly recommend you experience this amazing restaurant. The team is magnificent with wonderful service, delicious food and spectacular wines. Thank you for hosting me and Katherine during this lovely visit.
